Türkiye's Values Continue to Take Their Place in the International Arena
In a post he shared on his social media account on August 5, 2024, Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT) President Prof. Dr. M. Zeki DURAK made evaluations regarding the industrial property rights application data in the first half of 2024.
Stating that a total of 97,410 domestic applications were made to TURKPATENT in the first half of 2024, including 3,056 domestic patents, 1,334 domestic utility models, 74,665 domestic trafemarks, 18,183 domestic designs, and 172 geographical indication applications, DURAK said, “In line with the National Technology Move, we continue serve for our country’s development in the field of innovation and branding with industrial property rights and continue to increase our global competitiveness.”
Provinces That Stand Out in Geographical Indications
Stating that the highest number of geographical indication applications came from Hatay with 30 applications in the same period, DURAK stated that Diyarbakır came second with 11 applications, and Antalya came third with 8 applications.
Geographical Indications in the International Area
Stating that they continue to increase Türkiye's potential and recognition in the international arena regarding geographically indicated products, Durak said, “We are making great efforts to ensure that Turkish products receive the value they deserve and become brands worldwide. In this context; Safranbolu Safranı (Saffron), Aydın Memecik Zeytinyağı (Olive Oil), Araban Sarımsağı (Garlic) in the first half of 2024, Osmaniye Yer Fıstığı (Peanut), Bingöl Balı (Honey), Bursa Şeftalisi (Peach) in July, a total of 6 geographical indications were registered with the European Union. Thus, the number of geographical indications registered in the European Union has become 24. We expect this number to reach 30 before the end of 2024.”
